85-Inch TV MantelMount on Stone Fireplace in East Cobb, GA
Project Summary
An East Cobb family in the Indian Hills neighborhood wanted an 85-inch Samsung mounted above their two-story stacked stone fireplace. The fireplace rises nearly 14 feet, and the homeowner was concerned about neck strain from watching a TV mounted so high. We installed a MantelMount MM540 pull-down bracket that allows the TV to lower 27 inches for comfortable eye-level viewing and then push back flush against the stone when not in use.
Installation Details
The stacked stone fireplace required careful anchor point selection — each stone's thickness and integrity was assessed before drilling. We identified four anchor points where the stone was thickest and most structurally sound. The MantelMount MM540 was secured using 3/8-inch Tapcon concrete screws driven through the stone and into the concrete block backing behind. A new electrical outlet was installed inside the upper mantel area, and all cables were routed through a channel carved into the mortar joints between stones.
Professional Techniques Used
Diamond-tipped masonry bits were used at low RPM to bore through the stacked stone without cracking the surrounding material. Custom stainless steel spacers were fabricated on-site to bridge the uneven stone surface and provide a level mounting plane for the MantelMount bracket. The wire concealment route followed the natural mortar joints between stones, with the channel sealed and color-matched after cable installation. A heat shield was installed behind the TV to provide additional thermal protection from the gas fireplace below.
