Project Summary
A homeowner in historic Newnan wanted a 65-inch TV above their original 1920s brick fireplace without damaging the home's architectural character. The fireplace mantel sits at 58 inches from the floor — placing a TV above it creates uncomfortable neck angles. A MantelMount MM340 pull-down bracket was the perfect solution, allowing the TV to lower below the mantel for viewing and return flush above it when not in use.
Installation Details
The original 1920s brick required extra care — century-old bricks are more brittle than modern masonry and can crack if drilled too aggressively. We used a low-speed, high-torque drill with water-cooled masonry bits to bore anchor holes at gentle RPMs. The MantelMount MM340 was secured using six Tapcon screws driven into the brick face, carefully positioned between mortar joints to maximize brick integrity. Wire concealment was routed through the mortar joints, following the natural lines of the brickwork.
Professional Techniques Used
Water-cooled drilling prevents heat-induced cracking in century-old brick. Each drill point was pilot-tested with a small masonry bit before the full-size anchor hole was bored. The mortar joint wire channel was created using a mortar raking tool, with cables laid in and then sealed with color-matched mortar repair compound. A mantel-level heat sensor was installed to alert the homeowner if the fireplace generates temperatures above the TV's safe operating threshold. The MantelMount's gas piston mechanism was adjusted for the specific weight of the 65-inch TV to ensure smooth, balanced pull-down motion.
